KSRC presents latest developments in composites

20 february 2016

KSRC took part in Composite-Expo 2016, 9th international specialized exhibition regarding composite materials, technologies and equipment. This event took place on February 17–19 in Crocus Expo International Exhibition Center, Moscow. This is the only international specialized exhibition hosted by Russia that tackles the topic of composite materials and displaying latest developments in this sphere. Various sections of Composite-Expo illustrated such aspects of this topic as raw materials used to manufacture composite materials, their components, manufacturing technologies, industrial products, and also various equipment and tools used in processing of composites.

KSRC displayed full-scale samples of products made of composite materials that could have a wide range of applications not only in shipbuilding but also in structural mechanics and various branches of engineering. Some of these possible applications are as follows:

  • Outer plating of ship superstructure, a three-layered panel manufactured by means of vacuum injection in a single technological process;
  • Vibration-insulating coupling for ship propulsion systems, pumps, compressors, gensets;
  • Fragment of panel that could be used in walls of ship superstructures and wheelhouses. Similarly to the outer plating, this panel is also made by means of vacuum injection in a single technological process;
  • Deck framing, a three-layered flooring with uniform filler, that could be used in ship decks and platforms, floorings of piers and quays, and also in the ceiling structures of various buildings.

The experts in composite industry specifically pointed out the relevance and prospects of KSRC developments in the environment of dynamic progress in Russian industrial capabilities. KSRC samples were of genuine interest for the professionals not only from shipbuilding but also from aerospace and housing industries.
